Pilots

The RRA Network has developed an action research programme to support advocacy with evidence and experience on the ground. A series of experiments, called 'Comprehensive Pilots', will test the nature and feasibility of support systems that can sustain integrated rainfed agriculture.

Launched across different agro-ecologies of the country, the pilots will generate integrated field experiences in soil, seeds, water, millet-based crop systems, fisheries, livestock and credit, markets and institutions. These experiences will help us develop solutions to improve rainfed livelihoods and nutrition and help farmers better mitigate risk, through a first-hand assessment of the ground situation.

About

The Revitalising Rainfed Agriculture Network (RRA Network) is a growing network of over 60 civil society organisations, research institutions, policy makers, donor agencies and individuals advocating for a differentiated policy and support system for rainfed agriculture in India.

Rainfed India has been left out of mainstream development in agriculture due to the government's emphasis on generating food surplus from intensively irrigated areas to meet food security needs of the nation. The RRA Network aims to evolve appropriate policies rooted in the realities of rainfed areas. It advocates for increased and appropriate public investments to strengthen rainfed agriculture.

Issues we work on

The RRA Network has identified seven broad areas of agricultural productivity as its thematic nodes. Field experiences in these areas will help us determine specific measures for making appropriate investments in Rainfed India. Each area is being anchored by a partner organisation with years of experience in the field.

Seeds | Soils | Water | Millets | Fisheries | Livestock | Credit, markets and institutions
